Biography - A little something about...

LeMarr "El Uno" Taylor

From the northernmost section of the five boroughs in New York City, known as The Bronx hails a poet by the name eL UNO. Born LeMarr Taylor to his Trinidadian parents, Norton and Anelia Taylor, he formed a love affair with writing, beginning at the adolescent age of thirteen.  He began keeping a journal and later in his adult years, he began writing poetry. With his New York City roots, it’s not hard to tell through his delivery, tone, and conversational style that he is a student of the great lyricists of rap music’s golden era such as KRS-One, Rakim, Biggie Smalls, Big Daddy Kane, and Nas just to name a few.  Although eL UNO does obtain his own authentic style of poetry, these artists have been extremely influential to him as a writer.

LeMarr’s story embodies many adventurous journeys and major accomplishments including graduating from the Historical Black College and University, Norfolk State with a degree in Journalism.  However, his life encompasses stories of love found and lost, struggles with self-imagery, spirituality, and the countless emotions that arise from being a single African American man with two sons.

Fully aware of the ability to paint pictures through the strategic engagement of words, while relating a message to an audience in the form of poem is a God given talent. He also recognizes that the passion he has to continue to write and share what his heart feels is a quality held by those called to something special.  Thus, he has afforded the opportunity to perform with or in front of several Award Winning poets, HBO Def Poets, and some of the biggest names in the spoken word community.

LeMarr took on the moniker eL UNO, Everyone Lives Under Necessary Orders, as a means to promote the common fact amongst man; that we are all called to a higher purpose in life.  In addition, listening to that call you sometimes hear and feel tugging on the strings of your heart, will open doors you never dreamed possible. Your only responsibility is to continue to walk and believe.  LeMarr he believes is living out his assignment as a poet.
