A Bird in Hand

By Donna

She hides
between commitment and being carefree
between being bound
and the mockery of freedom
between certainty and the leap of faith
between giving pleasure
and holding the power to make them cry.
In cowardly fear
she hides
true self denied.

She lies
between her truth and what should be said
between looking glass reflections
and ornamented demeanor
between social norms and her innermost sense
between this solid earth
and endless blue skies.
Cloaked in her weakness
she lies
as her true self dies.
