Biography - A little something about...
Gemil Omar Fripp
My name is Gemil Omar Fripp. I was born in Savannah, Georgia, where I attended Jenkins High School.
Although I have been writing since age 13, I recently began performing my poems for close family and friends. My recent performance at the Apache Cafe, in Atlanta, was extremely rewarding in that it was my very first time showcasing myself in the presence of strangers. It has stirred my longing to display my talents on a broader stage.
One of my favorite poets is Maya Angelou because of her use of various writing techniques and her ability to create art out of the struggles of African-Americans throughout history. My other favorite poet is Henry David Thoreau because of his desire to have his readers use his words to bring creativity and joy into their own lives despite circumstances or environment.
My genre of writing is spoken word, poetry, and neo-soul. With my works, I am inspired to teach through my experiences and light a way for others.
My perfect day is simply being able to accomplish my goals, no matter how large or small they are. At this point in my life, I am striving to inspire joy, truth and love by putting the listener back in control of their life.
