A little something about...
Kendal S. Turner
I was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma
Formally educated at Booker T Washington H.S. then Dillard University
I am a self published author of four books. I've even sold books in Jamaica! I have performed in over one hundred churches in the state of Oklahoma alone. I've performed in plays, various open mic events, clubs, schools and personal homes! I have yet to perform internationally however my poetry has been played on international radio stations. My first acting opportunity came once I moved to Atlanta. I played the leading role in a short film titled "Les be Honest". A short film bringing awareness to domestic violence in the LGBT community.
Nominated one of Oklahoma’s most Note Worthy Women. Won Addison Texas 2014 Slam Competition.
I do not have a favorite poet. My favorite poem thus far is one of my own poems titled "Invisible". It is the raw, honest truth of how I feel as it pertains to my relationship with my mother.
My writing style would be considered inspirational/ spiritual.
Oddly as it may seem, I didn't start writing poetry until 2006. After I moved to Oklahoma City, I was unmotivated, uninspired and just down right depressed. When I wrote my first poem, my whole world changed.
A perfect day for me is waking up in my own bed, having a cup of coffee and having at least 30 minutes of quiet time. If I can squeeze in at least 2 hours of reading then It really sets the tone for my day. I like peace and quiet--LOL!
Life inspires me. Pain inspires me. Love inspires me. I can only write about what I experience or what I see first hand experienced by someone else. I have never been able to make up poems or write about shoe laces. I write about real life issues.
My life...is a movie. One big motion picture being played out in public. Let's see how it unfolds.
