Burned By the Fire

By Matt Bruce

The stars in the sky never looked so bright,
Knowing where you are and where I should stand,

Many miles down the road and wrapped in today,
Beyond the facade I cherish memories of you,

Yet I can be happy in my world, living another day,
Recalling your touch and the way your love renewed,

Through the years you’ve become a cautionary tale,
Shared with friends about mistakes of my youth,

Veiled with sharp words of consulate despair,
Until I could finally recount my wish and recite the truth,

My PYT who would become the love of my life,
All those late nights we lost ourselves in desire,

The one who could reach me how no other ever could,
We couldn’t imagine all the changes which would transpire,

Yet as I’ve grown I’ve learned to miss you and carry on,
Knowing we never made it to the sunshine,

I wish you the peace I have found in those scars,
Burned by the fire in the time that I called you mine…

I was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia
My education started after I left school.
I have never showcased my work beyond sharing with a couple friends when the mood strikes.
