Panic

By La Verta Whitlock Scott

Impossible to catch a breath with trembling hands
Heartbeats tethered in fear
If only to relax a screaming mind
Unbearable to draw peace near
Complacent words on unkissed lips
Pictures etched in bones
So hard to make pain disappear
Memories overgrown
Inhale the dreams
Mock the words
Let opinion not betray
For from your wet and raining eyes
Panic soon slips away
