What I'm missing is a different song, that doesn't sound like the first song just stretched out over the entire CD. Van Morrison just said to them: “Whatever you hear, play it and go with it.” The instructions were very short and the rest was up to the musicians. What's to say about a masterpiece that came together with equal parts passion, rudeness, virtuosity, organized crime, jazz session guys getting a check for playing a few days' record gig with some guy they never heard of who sat apart from them in a booth after showing them the changes? Certainly not as well known or as approachable as Moondance but, in my estimation, a far more artful, inspired and intrepid work. She didn’t know the album and when she listened to it, she loved the track Ballerina, which she does a fantastic rendition of now. Read honest and unbiased product reviews from our users. Astral Weeks was one of those albums that had been floating around my mind in bits and pieces for years. That was cool because they were allowed freedom to perform entirely in the moment – and they recorded it over only two sessions. It solidified and mystified Van the Man's reputation, music not recreated but built upon throughout Morrison's career. I have the old Astral Weeks LP and the CD, and the sound quality here is *exceptional*, and Van comes through as he should.... vulnerable, emotional, disheveled. Having this cd (and his original record) lets me hear more and wanting more, too! Pepper's, or Michael Jackson's Thriller. It may not be a completely revolutionary re-master like the 2009 Beatles CDs, but it's an improvement in clarity nonetheless. I wanted to capture this organic idea of the album with its stream of consciousness lyrics, so I approached his words as poetry, breaking them down into keywords and themes. I like to do the unexpected, so when people come along to the concert I want them to hear what they recognise, along with other flavours I’ve brought out of the original arrangements. It deserves to be listened to as a piece, but if you must break it down, the title track, Sweet Thing, Madame George and Cypress Avenue stand alone as well.
