Wing was not operational from Jun 1991 until it moved on paper to Elmendorf AFB on 19 Dec 1991, replacing the 21 Tactical Fighter Wing. 481 Fighter-Bomber (later, 481 Tactical Fighter; 481 Tactical Fighter Training): 25 Sep 1957-31 Aug 1973 (detached 1-25 Jun 1959, 9 Jun-11 Oct 1961, 24 Apr-20 May 1963, 19 Nov 1963-1 Feb 1964, 9-c. 20 Apr 1964, 2 Sep-4 Dec 1964, and 15 Jun-30 Nov 1965); 15 Jan 1976-8 Jul 1980. A fourth fighter squadron, the 495th Tactical Fighter Squadron was activated with the 48th TFW on 1 April 1977 with a squadron tail color of green.
