There is definitely some violence, drinking, and smoking, but it isn't too bad. Stay gold for Johnny, Pony. The good news? The Outsiders - a negative review A few months back I read the excerpt from Rob Lowe’s book where he talked about being cast in The Outsiders. I got to because my parents thought I was mature enough. I’d definitely say that this book is 10/10 and is appropriate for mature tweens and up. Older kids are more mentally mature to understand between what is wrong and what is right. They also get into trouble and make light of violence. Other than the violence and the drug use, i recommend it! I am in love with this book. Ben Mendelsohn and Cynthia Erivo in “The Outsider”. She’s seen things she can’t explain and come to accept that such unanswerable dilemmas are part of life. It is a bit violent but not bad at all. (WARNING : There is some smoking and drinking. I would read it 100 times if I could. The book teaches great lessons, such as how stereotyping is bad, and the importance of youth and friendship. It helps to open your eyes to things that actually happened. Mendelsohn and his co-stars do a fine job of keeping the initial episodes on the up-and-up, as well. The Socs always jump the hoods (Greasers) when they are alone. It is a book about friendship, love, and growing up. A character is described to get drunk, and Ponyboy takes too much aspirin. There are two other gangs of greasers. and it teaches you a life lesson. They are in a battle against the Socs, who are spoiled and very rich. This will forever be my favorite book even 40 years later. The Outsiders, written by S.E.Hinton, follows two rival groups- the Socs and the Greasers. Price’s show does a better job of tipping its hand than the novel, in part because it moves much faster through the initial investigation.
Does that make it great TV? Hinton! What should be an open-and-shut case inexplicably pivots when just as much evidence contradicts Terry’s guilt.
They all have parts to play: Dally is the tough guy, 2-Bit is known for his switchblade, Steve is known to mess around a lot, Sodapop comforts people, Johnny is the pet of the gang, and Ponyboy is the youngest at the age of fourteen. By the end of the first hour (and again in the second), the audience is left wondering linked, yet opposing questions: How did Terry get away with it (because he had to have done it) and who else could’ve done it (because there’s no way Terry did it)? Overall, this is an amazing book and DEFINITELY recommended and something everyone should at least once in their lives. Pair that with Mendelsohn’s expressive eyes and Ralph always feels fully-realized. i love s.e. He can’t sleep, he can’t sit still, he can’t do anything but think of ways to move forward. Much of what makes the story so intriguing from the outset is its inherent promise to answer these perplexing queries: “Don’t worry, there will be an explanation for all this weirdness.” And a lot of time in the early episodes is devoted to grounding this dark and gritty drama; jokes are already being cracked about director Bateman’s trademark low-lighting, but it’s an asset, not a problem. The only reason I think it is for 12+ is because the characters smoke cigarettes a lot, and describe it as “relaxing”.
Their beloved, benevolent coach just got shoved into a police cruiser and hauled off to jail. There is some hinting at sex but it will fly under the radar for younger kids and very minimal swearing. A fight scene is described, and so are numerous wounds. Well, there are fingerprints at the crime scene, multiple eye witnesses, and video evidence connecting Terry to the murder. While I haven't lived in the 60s, The Outsiders is way more realistic of how life was like for teenagers than other books, such as Sweet Valley High which didn't depict all the violence.

Granted, Ralph’s only child wasn’t killed or violated in the woods, but the still-recovering cop isn’t exactly over the injustice of losing his boy. When she arrives, “The Outsider” reveals its true self: that this case won’t be cracked by traditional police work; that the answer to the impossible questions isn’t linked to a clever plan by a diabolical killer or an overlooked clue by the dogged detectives The answer, in short, is magic. I recommend it for kids 11 and up because the book does have a lot of drugs and violence. Can not believing in something protect us from it? But the biggest mistake of the book could still befall the series. This is genuinely one of the best movies I’ve ever seen! But you really learn alot about life and how to live and stuff and how periuous your life is. Ben Travers OK, OK, “magic” may be the wrong word for an otherworldly explanation, but knowing “The Outsider” isn’t actually a true crime story (or, more accurately, it’s not a fictionalized crime story representative of reality) is absolutely critical to enjoying the show — so much so that anyone expecting a realistic conclusion could be outraged by the supernatural twist. Really most of the books they make us read are not my favorite. With the help of a great cast (led by Ben Mendelsohn) and eerie, stark direction from Emmy-winner Jason Bateman, “The Outsider” isn’t on the level of Price’s past work — but it’s far better than this story has any right to be. All of this information is introduced in a jarring and absorbing pilot episode which moves deftly through character introductions as it sets up the conflict of a particularly confounding case. Ralph is so convinced Terry is the killer that he cuffs him in the middle of a game, as his wife Glory (Julianne Nicholson), their kids, and lots of townsfolk packed in the bleachers gape in horror. The topic here is belief. I won’t spoil anything, but I think it is an amazing book. There are rumbles (fights) but nothing too violent than what you’d see in any other book. This is a great book that exposes kids to some history of the 1960s and Ponyboy.
